Jeannie left us on January 1, 2007, at age 31.
Jeannie was everything kind and good. She was gentle, loving, soulful and trusting. With such a loving and peaceful personality, life in the lab nearly destroyed her completely. With the tiny pieces she had left, after leaving the lab, she was able to have something of a decent life.
Although her years at Fauna were never completely normal, she was given and allowed all that she could cope with. Her environment was controlled by her needs. If she wanted to be alone for weeks, she could. She could go out when she wanted. It was critical to let her choose what she wanted to do as a way to make her years at Fauna the very best they could be for her.
Jeannie had considerable personal restraints and emotional pain. She suffered so much and nearly lost all her ability to cope with life. Her trauma left her to live a life where every day was a challenge for her. We made sure that she found some peace and had a lot of love and support. We gave her the consistency which was so important for her.
At Fauna, Jeannie found a real family -- one that would never leave her. She finally had a home, a place where she felt comfortable and a safe room she could always come back too when things seemed too much for her. We gave her all the love she could ever wish to have. And most of all, we gave her understanding.
Jeannie, a beautiful soul, is forever loved, terribly missed, and remembered daily. She will always be in our hearts forever.
